Garden picnic hens event
Today I wanted to share some snaps from a very special event we held on the weekend. On Saturday we celebrated my dear friends hens party! The rain held off for us until late afternoon, which meant the picturesque scene we created in a friends backyard went off without a hitch. Complete with stunning flowers, vintage bikes and ornamental bird cages, we really transformed the area into a beautiful, intimate little garden picnic. At the centre, we layered pastel materials to create our rug, where we sat and enjoyed the sun, drinking watermelon cocktails and nibbling on a delicious cheese platter and bite size canopies.
With the help of my family the evening before, I tackled a couple of new recipes for the desserts. I went with a layered strawberry and cream sponge cake for the main cake, decorating the top with fresh berries, pistachio nuts and pepita seeds. I also attempted lemon curd tartlets with swiss meringue on top, this recipe allowed me to use the blow torch for the first time… no fire brigade needed which was a plus! (Swiss meringue was incredibly easy to make, I will show you how I did it in another post later on because it might come in handy over the holiday season!)
The friendly team at Tetley's sponsored our picnic with their new Tea Master’s Range (Assam, Ceylon and Kenyan premium black tea), and our guests enjoyed a slice of cake with the delicious teas, which went down a treat.
I hope you have a great week everyone, it's a big one for me, I'm actually completing my last week working in magazines!! I have exciting plans to kick off next year working more closely with food. I have so much fun in the kitchen and look forward to sharing my food adventures with you here!
