Designers in The City apartment
This is an extra special blog post for ESW, as I was recently given the amazing opportunity to attend an evening showcasing the latest display apartment at Mirvac’s Harold Park. This event was the third in the Belle-Mirvac ‘Looking Back Moving Forward’ series, in which leading Australian designers have been invited to express a decade in design as part of Belle’s 40th birthday celebrations.
After a 70s themed apartment from Alexander and Co and an 80s themed apartment from Jason Mowen, it was talented design duo Jacinta Woods and Sonia Warner’s turn to take on the 90s, choosing their signature black and white palette for their showcase apartment. The duo took inspiration from the 90s supermodels, acknowledging the ‘timeless beauty of the women who reigned supreme in the final decade of the last millennia’.
A mixture of highly contemporary pieces with ageless vintage items speaks of the enduring presence of these women, and the result is ‘high drama with a cool edge of sophistication’. There are simply too many amazing elements that make up this interior for me to mention them all, but some of the standouts for me were the quirky vintage armchairs (reupholstered in black and white of course), the quilted black sofa, inspired by the classic black Chanel handbag, and the striking black strip that runs against the white walls of the apartment, which adds a sense of fun to the whole design.
Hope you are feeling as inspired as I am, I just love exploring different styles when it comes to decorating, there is so much opportunity to show off personality in your home!
