Greek Doughnuts_ Loukoumades
I made these beautiful Greek doughnuts (Loukoumades) with my Auntie for Easter last weekend. A bit of an expert in the kitchen, she had prepared her dough the night before. After finishing our BBQ lunch and swearing that we couldn't possibly fit another thing in, that's when the sweets come out! We heated a large pot of oil and scooped in the dough (a heaped tablespoon per serve).
With a golden texture as the goal, we turn them regularly so both sides cook evenly through. We then fish them out and let them rest on paper towel to soak up the excess oil. I then had the all important job of drowning them in a syrup we prepared by heating honey with a cinnamon stick.
