It's beginning to look a lot like...
December has arrived and has brought with it the unmistakeable festive feeling! I feel like everyday leading up to Christmas has already been booked with Christmas BBQ's, shopping expeditions and endless family occasions where the delicious food will no doubt be flowing!
When it comes to Christmas style I tend to be a little old school. When I was younger it was always my job to assemble the tree, the job fell to me because I was 'the creative one'. So, taking this job very seriously, I would put on my thinking music (Mariah Carey's Christmas album of course!) and get to work.
Luckily, my mum had the most amazing collection of Christmas decorations, so beautiful and unique. Things she'd picked up from all over, each with their own little story, perfect in their imperfections. On completion the tree stood tall and proud, dripping with personality and colour, I loved it! Sadly our decoration box went missing one year (we think they were taken at a garage sale by someone walking by).
Ever since then I've been working on my own decoration collection and, like a person on a mission, I am always on the hunt for my next piece. I have ornaments from most countries I have visited (not all because they aren't always pretty and I'm very picky!).
Now while I have nothing against a tree decorated with supermarket decorations, with everything crisp, neat and uniform, it's just not my style. My decorations are quite varied in colour and shape and what you might call 'different' (probably stemming from my mum's collection), but each has a special meaning and a memory that goes with it.
This year I intend to give home made gifts. I am working away at some fun ideas to surprise friends with. I will be sharing the success stories here, so stay tuned!
